Lifeworks Technology iHome iStand Notebook Media Center with Built-in Speakers IH-A711SS (White) Review

Pros: Nice box, quality material used in the construction, sturdy with good weight. Additional USB 2.0 port. Aesthetically consistent with my Macbook Pro.

Cons: Poorly designed backplate that is extremely difficult to thread the included wires into.Speakers are tingy with poor bass, they also fail to properly shield against the wireless signal from my iPhone.While the noise is reduced from normal iPod devices there is still a constant hum and a noticeable buzz when receiving a signal even when the power switch is off. And while the additional USB port is nice, I wish iHome added more than 1 considering the iStand already requires a power source and my other USB adapter with power supply can do 4 ports.The volume is a little quirky in that it requires you to side your finger to the left or right to control volume instead of pushing it like I initially tried. Lastly, there is no way to output sound from your computer through the iStand, I find this to be an extreme oversight considering it's already plugged in via USB to my computer.

Overall, the iStand for me is just a notebook stand that occasionally charges my iPhone... this is inadequate given the price of the product.Logitech makes a notebook stand that also comes with a wireless keyboard for less than half the price of the iStand.The speakers are average and do no properly shield against my iPhone.The inability of the speakers to play sound from my laptop is a constant annoyance. I would recommend pass unless you really want a stand to match your Macbook.
